What motivates us?

Campaign Manager, Helen, on what motivates her....
As a campaign manager I see people being recognised every day, being motivated for what they do whether it's reaching targets, achieving something outside their role or being loyal to one company for 5, 10 or even 40 years.
As a rower, I choose to spend 2 evenings each week sat on a rowing machine, close to falling off, and 2 hours out on the water early on a Saturday morning going through drills, sprints and endurance pieces. What makes me do it? I have no idea but it's certainly not the blisters, the exhaustion or the early starts, maybe it's the sunrises and blue skies, the team I row with or maybe it's simply the sense of achievement that stays with me for the rest of the day.
When running incentives we see the same motivators and achievements come up, even across different incentives but what really stands out for me is when colleagues recognise each other. The MyRewards nomination system allows participants to recognise people they work closely with, their managers, even employees based on the other side of the world. Sometimes users are just saying thanks, on other occasions the nominee has far exceeded their role, but when they see that they have been nominated, they must feel that same sense of achievement I do when the boat runs smoothly through the water, the sun's shining and we're all working towards achieving the same goal.
